What are the Valais Blacknose Sheep?

Why only the cutest sheep in the world!

Domestic sheep originating in the Valais region of Switzerland. It is raised both for meat and for wool. They are a rare breed with only 17,000 in the world.



The Valais Blacknose is a mainly white sheep with a black nose, the black coloring covers the center of their head, going from nose up to eye rims which are also black. Sometimes because of the large black covering they are refered to as white sheep with black faces.
Their coat is thick, evenly covers their bodies and has a very unique look. This makes their appearance so cuddly and cute.
Both rams and ewes are horned with spiral or helical-shaped horns.

Recently, however, they are being used as pets. Due to their friendly nature and unique fluffy appearance they make ideal pets. They are easily tamed and lead trained without much effort.



The Valais Blacknose is considered a large breed. Mature females (2 years old +) weigh between 150-200 pounds, while the rams are 175-275 pounds. Females are 2.3-2.5 feet tall and rams are 2.5-2.7 feet tall.
